Many named entity recognition systems (NER) perform entity recognition, classification and entity linking. However, these systems do not take into account the actual importance of entities in the documents. Identifying a set of salient entities that play an important role in a story that the document describes.

The Entity Salience Collection is a collection of datasets which provide entity salience information. The datasets in this collection are published under a free licence and stored in the NLP Interchange Format for interoperability reasons.
