###Overview
Assigning types (categories) to Wikipedia articles
-----------------------------
Hello,
We kindly ask you to assist us in a text analysis experiment,
aimed at automatically assigning the correct categories for Wikipedia articles.
Below is a list of Wikipedia articles. For each article, please assign
the most specific category (categories) from the presented taxonomy of categories.
What is a "category"
Each Wikipedia article describes some object (entity), the category corresponds to the type of the object.
- "Barack Obama" is to be assigned the category ... "President"
- "Mayor" is to be assigned the category ... "Politician"
Special cases
- If the article (object described by the article) has multiple types, make sure to add all of them.
- If the article is so called disambiguation article select the "DISAMBIGUATION ARTICLE" category. These articles are designed to help a reader find Wikipedia articles on different topics that could be referenced by the same search term. Disambiguation article typically starts with "(name of article) may refer to: ..."
- If you did not find any matching leaf category, select the "NOT FOUND" category.
Examples
- Consider "Joe DePietro", an American weightlifter. Since "Weightlifter" category is not in the taxonomy, you may be tempted to select "NOT FOUND". However, the taxonomy has the "Athlete" category, which is the solution.
- For "Joe DePietro" you may be tempted to choose "GivenName" as a category. This would not be correct, since the article does not describe a name, but a specific person. See the difference with the next example.
- For John (given name) the correct category would be "GivenName"
- Consider "Sun" (the star). We are searching for entry "star" in the "Celestial body" category. Although this category has "Star" subcategory, it has only one subcategory ("Brown Dwarf"), which is not applicable. The correct assignment is "Star". The super categories of "Star" (such as Celestial body), should not be selected!
- Consider article Lock. This article should be assigned into the "DISAMBIGUATION ARTICLE" category since it points to individual articles explaining the word "Lock".
IMPORTANT: Finding the most specific categories
To find the most specific type, use BOTH: the search box and the taxonomy browser,
HOW TO USE THE SEARCH BOX
- Insert only the beginning of the sought string (e.g. "distr" for district) to get more search results.
- If the query fails, try synonym: while "commander" is not found, search for "milit" finds "Military person".
- Use the search to find the approximate term, and then navigate through the taxonomy to find the most specific one. By clicking on the category names, more specific categories are displayed.
WHAT TO DO IF THE SEARCH BOX DOES NOT WORK
- Follow these instructions if any search returns "Not found".
- Your browser is unable to communicate with our search service, since it does not trust its security certificate.
- a) Either do not continue in the task.
- b) Or open https://nlp.vse.cz/DBpediaLookup/ in your browser, if security warning is displayed, you need temporarily or permanently accept the security certificate (add exception in Firefox, click on "proceed anyway" in Chrome).
- If a blank page is shown the problem is resolved.
Thank you for your assistance! Make sure to have carefully read the instructions before starting the task.
